Natural Monument - Discovery

This significant natural monument was uncovered by chance on November 2, 1872 by Josef Wilhelm Amrein-Troller during building work on a wine cellar on this site. The Glacier Garden was officially opened to the public on May 1, 1873, and excavation work continued until 1876. The residence which now houses the museum was built in 1874.
